So, today I went to Asahiya to pick up something I should have had months ago. I reserved it with May one day but I never went back to get it. I finally had some extra money and I felt very compelled to buy it. I did. I do not regret any cent of this purchase.
From the moment you pick it up, you notice this Complete Best is different from Sony’s last CD+DVD Limited Edition Complete Best set, which was for Fullmetal Alchemist. While the FMA boxset was more like an actual box, this is more like a sleeve, where you can slide the contents out from the side. You’ll also notice how pretty the coverart is. There is art on the front and back due to the new box style. The colors also match nicely. While FMA had a more minimalistic approach, this really communicates the different feel that Eureka seveN has.
You can see there’s lots of content in this set. We’ve got the box, the CD+DVD set, the story book, all of which we saw in the Fullmetal Alchemist Complete Best, but now there’s something new. Bound together by the green ray=out stripes is a pack of 8 postcard-esque cards with popular art from the series. This was a very nice addition to the Complete Best set, I’m pretty pleased, the cards are really beautiful. The front consists of a popular piece of Eureka seveN fanart, mostly from the openings, endings, or special art included in the firstpress of some of the singles. Chances are if you like the show, you’ve seen the pictures before. Please excuse my crappy camea and poor picture taking skills.
Nothing special here. It’s kind of an encyclopedia of all the people and terms in the Eureka seveN world, similar to what I was (am) doing for ray=out. Except they have pretty high quality pictures and 100% accurate sources and I don’t. Everything is in Japanese so all you posers who never learned it gets screwed. You can still look at it though. Even the text is pretty and it’s really crisp. High-quality stuff.
The actual content of the package. On the left, we have an audio CD that contains all four opening themes and all four ending themes featured in the animation. Additionally, we have the insert song “Niji” from episode 50 at the end of the playlist, which was a present surprise. The FMA Complete Best only had the openings and endings. It would have been nice to have Brothers as an insert on that Complete Best.
On the right, we have a region 2 DVD that contains the eight opening and ending animations in high quality with no text. That’s right, no credits here. These are ideal for screenshots. “I live in America,” you say, “I don’t have a region 2 DVD player,” you say. You have a DVD player in your computer, don’t you? Then you have a region 2 DVD player. “I don’t have a DVD player in my computer!,” you respond. Well, Newegg is the only thing I have to say to you. The only other thing I have to say is “Shame on you.”
The DVD actually has more than I thought it would. In addition to the previously mentioned 8 textless videos, we also have textless versions of the TR1: NEW WAVE and TR2: NEW VISION opening animations, which feature FLOW’s “REALIZE”. I’ve never played the game so these were new to me. I actually want to play them now to understand more about the universe that Eureka seveN takes place in. In addition, it also has a Niji video that emcompasses the whole song, all ten minutes of it, using rehashed screen clips from throughout the show and some real-life footage of waves and the earth and stuff. It was really neat, despite having no new footage, and I want to watch the series again now from the beginning after having watched that. The only thing that disappointed me was lack of footage from episode 50, they could have done a lot with that but they didn’t.
Anyway, despite being $54 dollars and a conversation in Japanese with the salesclerk at Asahiya (she spoke to me in Japanese for the first time ever in the history of me shopping there), I do not regret this purchase. Filled with a lot more stuff than the Fullmetal Alchemist Complete Best, it’s probably somewhat of a better value. Filled with great songs and great animation, if you like Eureka seveN and have followed the whole series from start to finish, you might want to pick up a copy of your own. Legally. Buying stuff isn’t as bad as people say, trust me.
*coughgeekcough*
that wasnt towards the Eureka thing. it was the thing that happened before you bought it. xD
Naisu review~
O_o 54 bucks!? Seriously? In U.S., not Japanese? For a bunch of stuff you can see/hear (legally) by visiting YouTube.com?
Does it at least come with all the episodes? I mean I like the series and all, heck I LOVE the series and can’t stop watching the anime/reading the manga, but 54 bucks?…
hey, is there going to be a eureka7 movie ending?? or are they going to continue the series??i need to know please!!!!
is there going to be any more, i loved the series, i watched em all. but the ending left too many loose endings, they should really finish it up or something……really need information.
O_o: Collector’s value. When you enjoy something, it’s nice to support the creators through a purchase. It’s not really a common thought process nowadays, but it is nice to support people that do good work. Furthermore, it was an imported item, so it is authentic from Japan, not a U.S. version (which doesn’t exist to my knowledge).
Also lets get something straight: YouTube is not legal in most cases.
e7ka & robby: As far as I know, the Eureka seveN series is pretty much complete. While there a few loose ends in the anime (which is considered canon), some of them are tied if you play the games, two of which have been localized in America to my knowledge. Who knows: Maybe they’ll finish it with a movie or some drama CDs. Personally, I feel its fine as it is.
Trust me, if you read the manga, there’s probably even more loose ends there.
