Genki Rockets’ Heavenly Star 1.10.06

I was very unhappily awoken this morning to go to an SAT class. But thats not what this entry is about.

When I crawled over to my computer half-asleep, on PSPupdates I saw “Lumines II Theme Revealed!” Oh my God, I thought Lumines II was full of the Black Eyed Peas pumpin’ it and Missy Elliot losing control and such, but what do I see? A video by a girl I’d never heard of before, going under the name “Genki Rockets.”

The song, titled “Heavenly Star,” is very befitting of Lumines, and I probably like it more than Lights even. Its a very upbeat techno song. Very very happy song, and I like that. The animation was even more amazing. it was a sketch-like animation of Lumi-chan choppily overlayed over actual footage of her moving. It made for a great effect, for some of the time you’d see her, and some of the time it was the animation, but never really for more than a few seconds. Its a really beautiful video.

The video has been described as “Gorilla-esque,” due to the fact that its mostly animated. However, one may wonder whether or not “Lumi-chan,” as she’s called, actually exists. According to CVG’s article, her voice was created by melding different female voices together. Also, she was created using an ‘expert-miming model,’ or more specifically the renowned Japanese design group “GLAMOOVE Inc.” Unfortunately, at the time of writing, their domain name seems to have expired. Mr. Mizuguchi, however, has also stated that the video was inspired by “Take On Me” by the Norwegian pop group a-ha.
From their interview with Mr. Mizuguchi:

So the girl in the video, she is 17 years-old. She doesn’t exist in this world; she’s a future girl. She was born in outer space and she’s never touched on this planet yet. This is kind of the big love song for the Earth; she’s always dreaming of what kind of place Earth is. She knows the history and info from the high-tech, high-res media, but she’s always dreaming about the real experience; wind on her face; rainbows - ‘what is a rainbow?’. It’s a kind of fresh, lovely song. (laughs)”

So does this beautiful girl actually exist in our world? I must say, I have my doubts. But the video is aesthetically pleasing, and the music addictive, and that’s good enough for me.

Lights is performed by Eri Nobuchika and was one of the better songs in Lumines 1 (the song was released by Eri before the game), the song was produced by Mondo Grosso (or he had a hand in it).

To compare the two songs, I would say Heavenly STar is a winner hands down. Lights was a good song, dont get me wrong (I’ve had a period of time where Lights was my ringtone). But Heavenly Star is a much catchier beat and more uplifting (not to mention a touch of electronica..). While Lights a good song, was sort of like a red light green light experience (started slow…built up to chorus and then sank back down).

Lumi is gorgeous~ They say that she’s a fictional character but…the her movements in the video clip are so realistic…I’m wondering if they mean the character is fictional but played by an actress…so this girl actually exists?? Hmmm…she looks better in the Breeze video clip, check it out on youtube:
